Picaro, New Concept in Garden Cuisine Now Open

The long-awaited-for Picaro Garden Cuisine restaurant opened with panache befitting its absolutely gorgeous setting facing the Pacific Ocean with a sunset ribbon-cutting ceremony on Saturday, January 25, 2020. Located in the sprawling beachside development of Rancho San Lucas just 15 minutes from downtown Cabo San Lucas, the rustic but elegant establishment opened its doors to a rousing group of well-wishers with Francisco “Paco” Bulnes, CEO of Grand Solmar, the visionary behind the Rancho San Lucas project, doing the honors of cutting the ribbon.  Executive Chefs Matias Forte of Romeo & Julieta and Christian Ricci, the innovative chef for Picaro were by his side welcoming the guests to the event.

Approximately 100 guests were wined and dined with a plated menu beginning with welcome drinks of lemonada de flores and cynar mohitos. Canapés were served from large black lacquered trays of crostini de mozzarella, quesadilla de cochinita and fish tostadas followed by oysters in mezcal, king Kampachi fish salad, oven-baked rice with chorizo and mussels, short rib with whisky gravy and an Italian bigné with custard and black cherry.

The decor of the indoor-outdoor structure is an eclectic array of rustic elements of oak wine barrels, wooden pitchforks and a bull’s head on the wall, black tables and chairs against white walls, lime green wicker chairs surrounding a square bar and signature tile floors. A wine room is reserved for private parties.

Picaro takes its name from a character in history who is somewhat of a rogue with an appealing hero personality. Many describe Executive Chef Christian Ricci as that character as he transmits his extrovert personality into extraordinary epicurean delights. For chefs who are highly creative, cooking is an art. Pushing the culinary boundaries, Ricci dazzles diners with his innovative approach to food. He manipulates the flavors and textures in unexpected ways.

Open from 3:00 to 11:00 p.m. (closed Monday), Picaro offers a diverse menu of appetizers, full entrees, desserts, and specialty signature cocktails. Sunday brunch hours are 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Reservations: 624-689-0050 or Opentable. Located at Km 120, Carretera a Todos Santos, Pacifica Rancho San Lucas.

A new and unique destination restaurant https://picarogardencuisine.com/a-new-and-unique-destination-restaurant/ Sun, 05 Jan 2025 21:33:33 +0000 https://picarogardencuisine.com/?p=81

A new and unique destination restaurant

Coming soon to Los Cabos, a new and unique destination restaurant. Pícaro.

One of the pioneers of Los Cabos had a vision some fifty years ago. He envisioned a ranch on the Pacific side of the lower peninsula, but his dream was not of horses or barns, but rather an upscale hotel, beautiful residential homes, retail stores, almost everything that you would find in a small community. The land he purchased is filled with natural desert flora and fauna with rustic beauty.

From the Todos Santos Highway, off toward the sea, only a fifteen-minute drive from Cabo San Lucas, you’ll find Rancho San Lucas. The property slopes down to the sea and has one of the most incredible views in all of Los Cabos; it almost takes your breath away. His vision is becoming a reality, with a hotel, residential homes, a Greg Norman signature golf course, and…a restaurant called Pícaro. In keeping with the image of Rancho San Lucas, Pícaro can be defined as rustic chic.

If you’re an adventurous traveler and eater, this restaurant is for you. It is one of the remotest, has the best views of the ocean, is among the most unusual and will have some of the best food in all of Los Cabos. Pícaro will be celebrated for its natural setting, exceptional bounty of vegetables from nearby farms, foraged herbs, seafood, and a bit of whimsy.

Pícaro is quite a famous character from history. He is a bit of a rogue, an imp, with mischief up his sleeve. He’s a rascal. He is cunning and crafty. He survives on what he harvests from the land and catches from the sea. Put all of this together and you find Pícaro.

Chef Ricci, who some say has a Pícaro-personality, takes advantage of what grows on the land and will be preparing dishes using methods discovered from rich traditions, or that he will create through his own research, or whim, to maintain the highest quality of the end product.

Once you arrive, and part of the fun is getting there, you’ll be greeted by a wide variety of menu choices that will make up Chef Ricci’s eclectic menu, or whatever is his crafty creation for the day. The seafood-heavy menu will feature some of the best products available from the surrounding seas. While the fare will be simple and fresh, it’s the experience and the view that will create the total package.

Indoor or alfresco dining will be your choice, with amazing ocean views even from inside and you can pre-book a special dining experience at the VIP chef’s table.

A destination restaurant is one that has a strong enough appeal to draw customers from beyond its community. Los Cabos is bursting at the seams with delicious places to eat. From cafes to cheap eats and fancy eateries, anyone who says we’re lacking on the food front in Los Cabos is wrong. Occasionally though, you just want to get out of town. Luckily, there will be a restaurant on the outskirts of town that is worth the drive.

Situated on a stunning hill overlooking the Pacific Pícaro will take destination dining to a whole new level of relaxing. With a relaxed ambience, premium wine and a casual food menu showcasing local produce and flavors inspired by Mediterranean and Mexican cuisine, this is the kind of place where you could easily spend an entire afternoon. You’ll want to grab a table and tuck into sautéed prawns, or slow-braised octopus with a vino from a Mexican vineyard. If you’re a city slicker but your heart is in the country, Pícaro will be the destination restaurant for you.

The menu will change almost daily but you can expect top-notch food every single time because Chef Ricci will be using only the freshest produce and ingredients in his creations at all times. Watch for the signs of Pícaro and follow them to a fun-filled feast!
